About Michael Baker

Just to give you a little background on me.

I have been working in manufacturing/production for 12 years now, ever since I was Honorably Discharged from the Nuclear Navy. I was an MM during my 6 years.

I have held various positions in this industry, including: Quality Manager, Quality Assurance Supervisor, Production Supervisor, Quality Engineer, and currently Industrial Engineer. I have worked on all 3 sides of production.

I also have my BS in Nuclear Engineering Technology, which I obtained in 3.5 years while going to school at night and still working full time during the day. Obviously, I have yet to really use the “nuclear” part of this degree, but it has opened doors.

I do not consider myself some sort of guru or expert, although I think I have a pretty good understanding of Lean. I have been one of the major players at each of the companies I have been at, and have implemented big cost savings projects and initiatives. I’ll get into some of these later on, as I just don’t have enough room here.

But from plant layouts, to product travel, to automating certain processes (not robotic automation), to training, to writing procedures, and a few more things I am sure I am leaving out, I have seemed to cover much of them.

But enough about me, this is about you and how we can help get your business or company Lean. There are plenty of articles here to help you out, and you can also get your hands on my downloadable ebook here:  Lean Manufacturing Secrets

I welcome you, and any questions you may have, and definitely look forward to working and learning with you.

Mike

August 2008 UPDATE: I have since been promoted to Production Manager. I believe it was mainly due to the a few things. One I have pretty good ideas (ha-ha) and two, I know more about Lean Manufacturing than anyone else in the company that could have possible filled that position. This is because I read all the time and try to stay somewhat up to date with the information out there. So, keep on keepin on!
