Can someone tell me what kind of features an Inventory Management System such as the one used by Walmart has or perhaps something similar but powerful?

The reason i wanted to know the features is because im very interested to try and develop a system using VB with the help of M.Access as the database for my FYP (Final Year Project) BUT i’m quite vague about this area (a good Inventory Management System)

So, can anyone tell me where i could get these information or perhaps tell me in here the details as to the features that the system should have in general and features that could make the system shine?

Features that i have thought off are as follow:

1) Able to do automatic restocks (emailing the supplier) when supply is lower than x as well as prioratise the
2) Able to point out top products for a particular type of item eg.Dish washer
3) Able to generate reports (though still unsure as to what reports)

Any help especially helpful ones is greatly appreciated!
